2009 Award Cycle
The annual Southwest Region Monarch Award recognizes and honors the
members of the Southwest Region and their influence for creating, delivering and
maintaining excellence in school facilities planning.
The Southwest Region Monarch Award will recognize EDUCATIONAL FACILITY
PLANNING EXCELLENCE – from determination of the need for the facility, through
occupancy – and all segments in between. The award will be presented to the
CEFPI – Southwest Region member school district, higher education institution,
consultant, architectural firm, and/or construction management firm whose
project best demonstrates the comprehensive effectiveness of planning, design,
and construction as outlined below. See Monarch Award past winners.
Criteria
- A thorough, comprehensive planning process.
- Development of a comprehensive educational specification and/or
program of requirements.
- A design that meets the requirements of the educational program with
special emphasis on functionality of educational spaces.
- Project must be within the seven states that comprise the Southwest
Region (AZ, CA, CO, NV, NM, UT and WY).
- The entire project team must reside within the Southwest Region and
maintain a Southwest Regional membership.
- All projects must have been completed after January 1, 2007.
Application forms with $350 submission fee must be submitted by May 15, 2009 and project submissions by May 22, 2009.

Selection Process
- A Jury of three CEFPI members composed of two educational facility planners and one architect
appointed by the Southwest Region Executive Committee.
- Each submittal will be reviewed and evaluated by the Jury based on the Award criteria.
- When the Jury has reduced the selection to 2-3 final projects, the Jury will phone the project
contacts of those buildings to personally evaluate the project and to verify successful project
implementation of the educational specifications.
