Sandra Kate, senior educational facility planner, associate, HMC Architects
Sandy has specialized in the planning, programming and design of K-12 educational facilities in multiple states throughout the US for over 20 years. She has worked with the State of Ohio's School Facility Commission in assisting in the development of state guidelines for educational facilities throughout the state as well as working with many districts in establishing district facility standards. Project involvement includes all phases of a project from planning and programming, through design and documentation, construction administration and post occupancy follow-through. Currently she has been working with San Diego Unified School District for the last two and a half years developing their new long-range facility master plan.
Sandy is an advocate for children and education and understands the importance of designing a facility that remains student-focused while responding and supporting a variety of curriculum approaches as well as community needs. She has the ability to work with administration, staff, students, and community to develop design consensus for a facility that meets the needs of all the stakeholders while working within state guidelines and regulations, budget, and schedule.
Additional project experience and planning includes college and university facilities, preschool facilities, healthcare, corporate headquarters and offices, and housing developments.
